Truckstop upgrade funding support announced 
 
The UK Government have announced further grants awarded to truck stops to improve toilets, showers, security, rest areas and more. 
 
The funding is from the third year of the HGV parking and driver welfare grant scheme, which will come in addition to £8 million from industry, for a total funding boost of £12.5 million to improve truckstops.

Truckstops get multi-million pound makeover in second tranche of funding 
 
A further £16.5m is being spent on improving lorry parking facilities and increasing spaces for HGVs across England, the department for transport (DfT) has announced. 
 
Roads minister Guy Opperman said 38 truckstops will be upgraded with new showers and restaurants, as well as better lighting and secure fencing so drivers can feel safer and sleep with greater peace of mind.

NOX EMISSIONS FROM HGVS FALLS BY 70% 
 
RHA estimates that NOx from HGVs has been slashed by around 70 percent since 2013. 
 
The improvements can largely be attributed to the introduction of cleaner Euro VI trucks onto the UK’s roads in the last decade.

New safety standards for HGVs operating in the capital are due in October 2024. 
 
Transport for London (TfL) is launching its Progressive Safe System (PSS) which will replace the current Safe System.

HAULIERS CALL FOR BETTER FACILITIES "CHANGE IS OVERDUE" 
 
Drivers told the RHA of the grim reality of roadside facility standards during a visit to a local truck stop and called for nationwide improvements. 
 
The drivers who spoke to the RHA noted a lack value for the money paid due to limited food options, typically fast-food chains, or sandwiches, leaving drivers with a low sense of morale.

LONDON’S DIRECT VISION STANDARD – INDUSTRY CONCERNS IGNORED BY TFL 
 
The RHA and Logistics UK, the two main groups representing the UK’s hauliers, have expressed disappointment that the new Direct Vision Standard (DVS) published by Transport for London (TfL) does not take into account concerns that have already been expressed by industry.

NUMBER 10 PETITION – MPS JOIN RHA PUSH FOR BETTER DRIVER FACILITIES 
 
The RHA handed in a petition to No10 Downing Street yesterday calling for more safe and secure parking for truckers and coach drivers. 
 
Dozens of MPs have added their voices to a campaign urging ministers to help improve roadside facilities.

GOVERNMENT MINISTER SUPPORTS RHA DRIVE FOR BETTER TRUCK STOPS 
 
Roads Minister, Richard Holden joined Transport Focus, the RHA and Logistics UK at an event to highlight delivering truck stop improvements for lorry drivers. 
 
Transport Focus has been surveying drivers on what they want from their rest stops. Secure parking with good toilet and washing facilities as well as food provision were the top responses.
