100,000 containers now moved by rail in DP World’s Modal Shift Programme 
 
DP World has recorded the 100,000th container moved by rail from its Southampton logistics hub as part of its award-winning and carbon emission reducing Modal Shift Programme trial. 
 
The share of rail freight for onward journeys by containers arriving by sea at DP World Southampton has risen from 21% at the start of the programme to more than 30% today.

DP World doubles rail links with new London Gateway-Southampton service 
 
DP World is expanding its rail capacity between two of the UK’s largest container ports with the launch of a second weekly rail service connecting the London Gateway and Southampton logistics hubs. 
 
This critical expansion is set to enhance UK supply chain resilience while slashing carbon emissions by cutting more than one million truck miles a year.

Freightliner launches new Tilbury to Manchester service 
 
Freightliner, along with several industry partners, has celebrated the launch of the new Tilbury2 to Manchester Trafford Park intermodal rail freight service. This new service, transporting containers arriving from Europe, is particularly significant as it was made possible by the Access Charge Discount scheme, recently launched by Network Rail to support the launch of new services and encourage modal shift to rail.

DP WORLD ACHIEVES 66% INCREASE IN FREIGHT MOVING FROM ROAD TO RAIL AT ITS SOUTHAMPTON HUB 
 
The Modal Shift Programme trial, introduced last September, is designed to increase the attractiveness of intermodal rail for customers through carefully considered financial incentives. From September to February the share of freight units being moved by rail instead of road at DP World Southampton has increased by two-thirds, from 21% to 35%.

DP WORLD RAISES INCENTIVE TO £100 FOR CUSTOMERS SWITCHING FREIGHT FROM ROAD TO RAIL 
 
DP World is increasing its financial incentive by almost 50 per cent for customers taking advantage of its ‘Modal Shift Programme’. The scheme was introduced in September last year and is designed to increase the attractiveness of intermodal rail for customers through carefully considered financial incentives.

GB RAILFREIGHT LAUNCHES NEW RAIL FREIGHT SERVICE CONNECTING LONDON GATEWAY TO IPORT DONCASTER 
 
GBRf has started a new intermodal service this week, connecting London Gateway with iPort Doncaster. 
 
This new service by GBRf will be utilising their brand-new FEA-G intermodal wagons, each of the new high-density twin wagons can carry six twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) on each service, significantly increasing the volume of cargo that can be transported on each journey.

GOVERNMENT SETS TARGET TO GROW RAIL FREIGHT BY AT LEAST 75% 
 
Even more vital goods will be transported across the UK by rail, following an ambitious target announced by Transport Secretary, Mark Harper, to grow rail freight by at least 75%.
