GOVERNMENT MINISTER SUPPORTS RHA DRIVE FOR BETTER TRUCK STOPS 
 
Roads Minister, Richard Holden joined Transport Focus, the RHA and Logistics UK at an event to highlight delivering truck stop improvements for lorry drivers. 
 
Transport Focus has been surveying drivers on what they want from their rest stops. Secure parking with good toilet and washing facilities as well as food provision were the top responses.

Road freight groups call for urgent measures including EU drivers to qualify for a UK work visa under the UK Shortage Occupations List.

Truck driver shortages to worsen significantly 
 
Truck driver shortages are expected to worsen significantly this year, a leading trade body has warned. 
 
The penury is expected to increase by over a quarter on 2020 levels in almost all of the 23 countries included in a recent global survey of road transport firms conducted by the International Road Transport Union (IRU).

Driver shortage will undoubtedly hit the consumer 
 
The UK is facing a massive reduction in the number of qualified HGV drivers, which has been exacerbated by Brexit, the Covid-19 pandemic and recent IR35 tax changes. 
 
The RHA has warned the Government that the UK’s ongoing HGV driver shortage will inevitably have an impact on the consumer, as the price of goods on the shelves is set to rise.
