GOVERNMENT MINISTER SUPPORTS RHA DRIVE FOR BETTER TRUCK STOPS 
 
Roads Minister, Richard Holden joined Transport Focus, the RHA and Logistics UK at an event to highlight delivering truck stop improvements for lorry drivers. 
 
Transport Focus has been surveying drivers on what they want from their rest stops. Secure parking with good toilet and washing facilities as well as food provision were the top responses.

DP WORLD INVESTS £12M IN NEW RAIL INFRASTRUCTURE 
 
DP World is investing £12m in two new Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) cranes at London Gateway to meet fast growing demand for rail connections from customers at the smart logistics hub, which will increase its capacity by a third when a new fourth berth opens next year.

FREIGHTLINER AND ONE LAUNCH RAIL SERVICE USING GD+ FUEL 
 
On January 17th, 2023, a new Freightliner service made its first journey travelling from Southampton to Crewe. For this journey, ONE purchased GD+ fuel to cover 100% of the fuel volume required. 
 
The train then continued its journey to Freightliner Coatbridge terminal, Scotland, using an electric locomotive, making this one of the greenest rail freight routes in UK Rail.

FREIGHT FORWARDERS WELCOME CONTAINER SHIPPING MARKET PUBLIC CONSULTATION 
 
The British International Freight Association welcomes the news of the launch by the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) of a public consultation on the latter's proposed recommendation to UK government regarding the retained Liner Shipping Consortia Block Exemption Regulation.

Industrial action to impact freight movements 
 
We have received a notification from BIFA regarding the possibility of impacts to movement of freight through ports and airports as a result of planned industrial action by. 
 
Industrial action is planned to take place on the 1st February 2023 involving members of the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union .

Investment in new Genset trailers 
 
As part of our investment strategy, we will soon be taking delivery of a batch of new Genset trailers to add to our fleet. We continue to invest in refreshing and adding to our current equipment in order to provide our customers with the best possible, all round service. This investment will help us support our customers further with additional refrigerated transport options.

SHORT SEA BOOST FOR LONDON THAMESPORT 
 
The range of short sea container services available from Hutchison Ports London Thamesport is to be increased following the announcement by Viasea Shipping of a new service from the South East UK port.

PORT OF LIVERPOOL RANKED AS UK’S TOP PORT FOR PORT-CENTRIC LOGISTICS POTENTIAL 
 
The Port of Liverpool has been ranked as the UK’s top port for port-centric logistics potential in a new industry study. 
 
Property adviser Knight Frank analysed and ranked 41 UK ports based on 13 criteria, assessing their potential for future logistics investment and development, in its latest Future Gazing report.

Freeport East receives final Government approval 
 
Freeport East has received final Government approvals allowing it to move forward into the delivery phase. 
 
The development of the Freeport, which is expected to create up to 13,500 new jobs, will be boosted by £25 million in Government funding to support infrastructure enhancement.
