NEW RAIL SERVICE FROM THE PORT OF FELIXSTOWE

A new daily rail service has been introduced at Hutchison Ports Port of Felixstowe. The new service is operated by GB Railfreight and connects the UK's largest container port with Wakefield in Yorkshire.

Ocean freight pressures set to continue until at least summer

Difficulties experienced throughout much of the global ocean freight logistics chain for several months look set to continue well into the second quarter (Q2) of this year, according to freight forwarding and other sources, including high prices, poor vessel reliability, capacity issues and acute equipment shortages.

US box imports set for ‘dramatic’ H1 growth

Imports at the largest US container ports are expected to grow “dramatically” during the first half of 2021, particularly in comparison with last year’s disrupted market, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released today by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and Hackett Associates.

Higher contract rates ahead as shippers seek security

Contract freight rates have risen sharply and could well remain high for the remainder of 2021 and beyond, as shippers that had successfully played the spot market in the past have been hit hard by the recent ocean supply constraints and now seek longer-term commitments.

China Shipowners’ Association and China Ports and Harbours Association call on carriers and ports to make more efforts to reduce shipping costs. These include adding vessel capacity and accelerating empty container circulation.
