CDS Deadline Approaches 
 
The CDS deadlines are looming. Going by the current schedule, CHIEF will be withdrawn in two stages: 
 
After 30 September 2022, you won’t be able to make import declarations on CHIEF 
 
After 31 March 2023, you won’t be able to make export declarations on CHIEF 
 
HMRC recently sent letters to 220,000 GB VAT registered traders and although not all of them will be importers and or exporters, and many will use the services of a broker or forwarder, this communication is indicative of the lack of awareness – and lack of preparedness – for the impending move 
 
Port of Liverpool - Strike Action Confirmed 
 
Unite the Union has confirmed strike action is to take place at the Port of Liverpool between 06:00 Monday 19 September and 06:00 Monday 3 October. 
 
The move is designed to disrupt operations at the UK container port after a pay package of 8.3% was rejected by the union, and following demands for greater pay increases.

HUTCHISON PORTS AND TIL ANNOUNCE NEW DEVELOPMENT 
 
Hutchison Ports and Terminal Investment Limited Sàrl (TIL), the terminal investment company of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), have announced a collaboration to develop a new container terminal in the Europahaven, where the north side of the Hutchison Ports ECT Delta terminal and Hutchison Ports Delta II (the former APMT-R site) are located.

CALL FOR GOVERNMENT TO RECOGNISE MARITIME SECTOR AS BEST HOPE FOR LEVELLING-UP 
 
The new Chief Executive of one of the UK’s largest logistics firms has urged the government to embrace a partnership with port and maritime companies to help meet its objectives on levelling-up, net zero and economic growth. 
 
Claudio Veritiero, who took over at Peel Ports Group in April, says that businesses in the sector are ideally placed to provide benefits and opportunities across these three national priorities, especially in the wake of Covid-19 and Brexit.

Ningbo-Zhoushan hits record container volume amid Shanghai lockdown 
 
In April, Ningbo-Zhoushan port is expected to post a container throughput of over 3m teu, a new high for single month and an increase of 10% year-on-year. 
 
Amid the recent covid-outbreaks happened in Yangtze river delta, especially the wave in its neighboring port Shanghai, Ningbo-Zhoushan port maintained smooth operation for container trucks transportation and provided more solutions including opening up new services, adding freight places and adjusting empty containers to effectively relieve the logistics pressure in Yangtze river delta region.

Port operations in Shanghai and Ningbo halted by Typhoon Chanthu 
 
Ports in Shanghai and Ningbo, the world’s largest and third-largest container hubs, have closed for the second time due to the impact of a typhoon this summer. 
 
China’s National Meteorological Centre has issued an orange alert, the second-most serious level, for the Typhoon Chanthu, which is expected to make landfall in the Zhoushan Archipelago, Zhejiang province on Monday with strong gales and heavy rainfall.
