Brexit border checks trial causes long lorry queues in Kent 
 
Queues of trucks stretching for five miles unexpectedly built up in Kent earlier this week after the French started a trial of post-Brexit checks, according to The Guardian. 
 
Lorries on their way across the English Channel were forced to stop in long lines up to junction 11 on the M20 as they tried to approach the Eurotunnel entrance just outside Folkestone and the Port of Dover.

UK-EU freight trade set for bumpy ride in January 
 
With the end of the UK’s Transition Period from European Union trade rules fast-approaching, there continues to be a significant lack of preparedness on the part of the trading community with regard to the post-Brexit business landscape and the implementation of the systems that will be needed from the end of December, according to leading UK customs technology specialist Peter MacSwiney, chairman of UK customs clearance solutions provider Agency Sector Management (ASM).

New UK report warns of widespread disruption to UK-EU freight transport from 1 January 
 
The UK’s National Audit Office (NAO) has reported that there is still likely to be widespread disruption to UK-EU freight transport from 1 January 2021, despite some progress in recent months implementing the changes required to systems, infrastructure and resources to manage the border at the end of the UK’s post-EU Exit transition period.

UK government signs $100m Brexit freight capacity deals 
 
The UK government has signed agreements with four ferry operators to provide freight capacity equivalent to over 3,000 HGVs per week, in an attempt to mitigate the risk of disruption to key freight flows and supply chains as the UK and the European Union (EU) adjust to new border processes at the end of the UK’s transition period from EU rules at the end of this year.

UK Government announces £200 million fund for ports 
 
The UK Government has announced a £200 million pound fund to help ports deal with post Brexit strain. The new funding is to support the building of new facilities at ports in preparation for the end of the transition period.

Government announce new UK Global Tariff 
 
The Government has this morning (19 May) announced the UK’s new MFN tariff regime, the UK Global Tariff (UKGT). This will replace the EU’s Common External Tariff on 1 January 2021 at the end of the Transition Period.

P&O Ferries launch new Calais to Tilbury freight route 
 
P&O Ferries have launched a new ro-ro service between Calais and the London Port of Tilbury. The service which started on the 23rd September is aimed to offer a new option for unaccompanied freight and to help maintain customers supply chains in the event of a disorderly Brexit.

Get ready for Brexit 
 
The UK Government have announced that the UK will leave the European Union "come what may" on the 31st October. Whilst this has been fiercely debated in Parliament over the past week with calls for an extension to Article 50, the Prime Minister has stated he will not ask for an extension. 
 
We understand that our customers may well be feeling confused about what direction the UK is going in and whether there will be a deal agreed or whether the UK will leave with a no deal on the 31st October. 
 
There has been very little information published about how to prepare for Brexit until now.......  
 
RHA Publish paper on preparing for a no deal Brexit 
 
Dare we say it....the B word? There is no hiding from it Brexit is coming! In the same way winter was coming in Game of Thrones, it will effect all of us. The Government has announced we will be leaving the European Union on the 31st of October "WITH OR WITHOUT A DEAL". How true that is we cant say but we believe that we all need to be prepared as best we can for every outcome. This week the RHA have published a paper on preparing for a no deal Brexit, we have included the link below for you if you wish to read through it.
